Why Are You Thinking About Learning Better English?

Reasons to learn better English:

Reason One: According to the British Council, English is spoken to an understandable level by 1.75 billion people. That’s one in every four people on the planet. By 2020, the British Council believes that two billion people will be using it, or learning it to speak it. So the use of English will continue to grow.

Reason Two: In a 2012 survey by the Economist Intelligence Unit, nearly 70 per cent of executives said their workforce needed to master English to realise their expansion plans. English remains the global language of business.

Reason Three: There’s greater demand across the world for communication in English. Russia has stated that fluent English will be required to become a civil servant. In Vietnam, English is compulsory from the fourth grade and it’s taught in all primary schools in Japan. Kazakhstan needs 30,000 English speakers for the Expo 2017. So it is not just the workplace that is seeing a growing use of English.

Reason Four: Social networking and relationships lean more towards English than any other language. The Internet has created a level playing field in terms of English use. According to Internet World Statistics, more than 536 million people use the Internet in English, more than a quarter of all users. A large proportion of entertainment is in English.

Reason Five: English has become the language of knowledge globally. More than 50 per cent of Internet pages are in English. There are many universities around the world that have recognised the need for English and are now teaching entire courses in English. In the UK alone, the UK Council of International Student Affairs estimates there are 430,000 foreign learners, with 750,000 in the United States.
